In 2024, Peru is grappling with the worst dengue epidemic in its history, experiencing a staggering 279% increase in cases compared to the previous year. The key to the dengue mosquito’s reproduction lies in its ability to lay eggs in calm waters. To address this, we developed an innovative solution: a self-sustaining agitator designed to disrupt the surfaces of water containers. This transforms the ideal breeding ground for mosquitoes into an environment unsuitable for their reproduction, achieving a remarkable 92% protection rate for any water container.
Named “The Guardian Toad,” this alternative solution aims to help reduce mosquito proliferation and, consequently, lower infection rates in high-risk areas. These regions often suffer from a lack of clean water and extreme climate conditions, which contribute to high transmission rates of dengue.
This professional campaign, titled “The Guardian Toad,” was launched in Peru in April 2024. It was created for the brands Alicorp and Sapolio by the ad agency VML Peru. This 360° and Design media campaign focuses on the Health, Household Products, and Public Interest industries and includes one media asset.
The Guardian Toad serves as a practical and effective approach to tackling the dengue crisis. By disrupting mosquito breeding habitats, it provides a sustainable method to protect communities from this deadly disease. The campaign underscores Alicorp and Sapolio’s commitment to public health and innovation, showcasing their efforts to create impactful solutions in the fight against dengue.
By integrating this technology, we aim to make a significant difference in high-risk areas, ultimately contributing to the health and well-being of affected communities. The Guardian Toad is more than just a product; it represents a proactive step towards disease prevention and community protection. Through this campaign, we hope to inspire other regions facing similar challenges to adopt innovative approaches in combating mosquito-borne illnesses.
