Challenging the Narrative: The #blackthinkers Campaign
Black history — celebrated every February, originally in America, and now embraced by the whole world. It’s a month dedicated to honoring the achievements and contributions of Black individuals throughout history. But as the world commemorates Black History Month, a critical question arises: Are we truly celebrating Blackness every day?
Most people aren’t aware of a significant problem underlying the way Black history is perceived and celebrated. While Black Americans represent only 4% of the world’s Black population, which totals 1.2 billion, America often serves as the benchmark for Blackness, particularly in Western societies.
Why confine the celebration of universal Blackness to just one month when Black identity is lived and experienced every single day?
At thjnk, we believe that representation matters, and there’s no “i” in “thjnk.” That’s why we’ve launched the #blackthinkers campaign, aimed at challenging the current narrative surrounding the celebration of Black history. Our message is clear: Black history isn’t limited to a single month; it’s a part of everyday life.
Introducing #blackthinkers, a powerful film that challenges cultural perspectives and encourages a shift towards daily recognition and representation of Black identity. Through thought-provoking visuals and compelling storytelling, the campaign emphasizes the importance of acknowledging Black history as an integral aspect of our collective heritage.
Published in Germany in February 2024, the #blackthinkers campaign represents a bold step towards promoting diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness. Spearheaded by thjnk, this Film medium campaign transcends industries, resonating with audiences in education, public interest, and beyond.
As we reflect on the significance of Black history, let’s embrace the #blackthinkers movement and commit to celebrating the richness and diversity of Black identity each and every day. Together, we can challenge existing norms, amplify marginalized voices, and pave the way for a more inclusive future.
