Picture this: a woman in rural India embarks on a daily journey, walking miles in search of water for her family. It’s a reality that many Indian women face, sacrificing leisure and aspirations for this basic necessity.
According to the World Economic Forum, women in rural India walk an average of 5 to 20 kilometers every day to fetch water for their households. It’s a staggering statistic that highlights the immense challenge of water scarcity in these communities.
But there’s hope. For the past two decades, Mukul Madhav Foundation has been working tirelessly to change this narrative. Through initiatives like rainwater harvesting, building Cement Nala Bunds (CNBs), and installing pipelines and RO filters, they’re making water more accessible to rural communities.
This World Water Day, Mukul Madhav Foundation wanted to shine a light on the transformative power of water access. They conceptualized an illustrated video that captures the journey of two women who once walked miles for water. With a focus on the ‘sound’ of water, the video celebrates how access to this basic resource brings not just water, but also leisure, aspirations, and hope for the future.
“It’s not just about water,” says a spokesperson for Mukul Madhav Foundation. “It’s about giving women the time to pursue their dreams, to spend time with their families, and to build a better future for themselves and their children.”
Created in collaboration with the ad agency Schbang, this digital campaign aims to raise awareness about the importance of water access and the impact it has on women’s lives. By highlighting the sound of water as a symbol of rest and relaxation, Mukul Madhav Foundation hopes to inspire action and support for their cause.
“We believe that access to water is a fundamental right,” adds the spokesperson. “And by working together, we can ensure that every woman has access to this essential resource, allowing them to lead healthier, happier, and more fulfilling lives.”
So this World Water Day, let’s celebrate the sound of rest that comes with access to water, and let’s continue to support organizations like Mukul Madhav Foundation in their mission to create a brighter future for all.
