As Super Bowl LVIII gears up for its highly anticipated commercials, Oklahoma’s 988 Mental Health Lifeline takes center stage with a powerful public service announcement. Amidst the humor and excitement, the 988 Lifeline offers round-the-clock support, emphasizing the importance of mental health awareness.
Actor, writer, and comedian Paul Scheer takes the helm in the campaign titled “Fake Happy,” delivering a poignant message through a series of short commercials. Transitioning between roles, Scheer subtly reveals the facade of happiness portrayed in advertisements, urging viewers to recognize the reality behind the mask. With a call to action directing attention to the 988 lifeline number, the campaign underscores the significance of prioritizing mental well-being.
“We’re challenging the notion of superficial happiness depicted in commercials,” explains Scheer. “It’s vital to acknowledge and address our true emotions.”
Macy Muirhead, Creative Director at Insight Creative Group, emphasizes the campaign’s relatability and humor in conveying the message that it’s okay not to be okay.
Published in the United States in February 2024, the “Fake Happy” campaign, crafted by the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health in collaboration with Insight Creative Group, resonates with audiences, sparking important conversations about mental health amidst America’s most celebrated event.
