StopVEO The Legacy: Breaking the Cycle of Educational Violence
Educational violence remains a pressing issue, often passed down from generation to generation. To address this, the StopVEO association, Enfance sans Violences, and Publicis Conseil have launched their fourth awareness campaign, “The Legacy,” in anticipation of the International Day for Non-Violence in Education on April 30th. This powerful campaign aims to highlight the transmission of violence within families and explore ways to break this harmful cycle.
The Power of Awareness
Despite advancements in understanding the consequences of violence on children’s development, educational violence is still prevalent. Children who experience violence often grow up to repeat the patterns they have learned, perpetuating a cycle of abuse. The goal of “The Legacy” is to raise awareness and promote a non-violent approach to education, ultimately fostering a more peaceful and balanced society.
The Campaign Film: “The Legacy”
At the heart of this campaign is a compelling film titled “The Legacy,” created by Publicis Conseil and directed by Cole Webley. Produced pro bono by BIG Productions (Raphaël Carassic), the film poignantly illustrates how ordinary violence is unconsciously passed down through generations, often masked as educational discipline. The narrative follows a man grappling with the violence he endured as a child and his determination to break the cycle when he becomes a father.
The film employs the metaphor of a “big hand” to symbolize the blows and humiliation that children face, highlighting how these experiences weigh heavily on their adult lives. The imagery serves as a stark reminder of the long-lasting impact of educational violence and the importance of making a conscious choice to end it.
Campaign Launch and Outreach
The 30-second version of “The Legacy” will air on television starting April 29, 2024, with a longer 2-minute and 47-second version available on social media from April 23, 2024. Several major French television networks, including France 2, France 3, France 5, LCPAN, TF1, Ushuaïa TV, Histoire, TMC, TF1 Série Films, and TFX, are supporting the campaign by broadcasting the film.
In addition to the film, StopVEO and Enfance sans Violences will host a conference titled “Opening Our Eyes to Ordinary Educational Violence” on April 30, 2024, at the Town Hall of the 10th arrondissement in Paris. This free event, open to all, will run from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM and aims to further educate the public on the importance of non-violent education.
Conclusion: Building a Non-Violent Future
Since its inception in 2016, StopVEO, Enfance sans Violences has been dedicated to helping adults recognize and change patterns of educational violence. “The Legacy” campaign underscores that a violence-free education is not only possible but essential for developing well-adjusted, peaceful adults. By raising awareness and fostering dialogue, the campaign seeks to inspire lasting change and a commitment to breaking the cycle of violence for future generations.
This professional campaign, created by Publicis Conseil, represents a crucial step towards a non-violent society, highlighting the need for education systems that nurture and protect children.
